SORTIE

This was a difficult shot to get and I was surprised it came out as well as it did considering the circumstances. This male redwinged blackbird was actually on the verge of attacking me. Apparently I was getting too close to his nest for his liking and he made several passes at my head to ward me off. I didn't realize this at first and just thought he was just harassing me until I got within a few feet of a clump of reeds and his scolding got louder and more agitated. When it finally dawned on me, I made my apologies and quickly backed out of the area.
I took this last June. I wonder if I will see him again this summer. Chances are good that he will return to the same pond to nest. This time I'll know to keep my distance from the cattail patch if he is around.
