This was a difficult shot to get and I was surprised it came out as well as it did considering the circumstances. This male redwinged blackbird was actually on the verge of attacking me. Apparently I was getting too close to his nest for his liking and he made several passes at my head to ward me off. I didn't realize this at first and just thought he was just harassing me until I got within a few feet of a clump of reeds and his scolding got louder and more agitated. When it finally dawned on me, I made my apologies and quickly backed out of the area. I took this last June. I wonder if I will see him again this summer. Chances are good that he will return to the same pond to nest. This time I'll know to keep my distance from the cattail patch if he is around.

Ya know I was just at your journal Through the eyes of the Beholder and I never realized you were here at Aminus3 also even though I have conversed with you through both web sites. My sometimes dense brain just made the connection of who you are! LOL!!! Duh.
What a lovely photograph, you did a great job! I have the redwing black birds here in the northeast also but they are so hard to capture. They come to my feeders but one little noise or movement and they are gone!
I haven't had any new photo's put up on Aminus3 lately because of the server problem but I have been updating my AOL journal lately. Stop by if you get a chance I always love to here from you! For anyone else that doesn't know my AOL photojournal exists you can visit it at http://journal.aol.com/seventhray1/rainbows-photos/ I have more photo's posted there than I do here. Again, beautiful photo dear. It's a winner! :D

These birds are amazing in real life. Your photo captures some of the flash and dynamism they exhibit in the wild. I grew up in a coastal area that had lots of wild bamboo canes along long wet shorelines; there were redwings by the thousands. I can still hear their songs in my memory, and see their flashing wings.
